Tips for Surviving a Cold Winter

Summers seem to be getting hotter, and winters are getting colder. Whether the hot or cold is better and more bearable depends on who you ask, but as winter is coming up, here are some tips on surviving a cold winter.

  1. Spend as much time as you can with friends or make some new ones! You may just feel like hiding under a blanket until spring comes, but this definitely isn’t healthy and something that makes the cold even worse is being lonely at the same time. You and your friends can all wear Aran Sweaters from Shamrock Gift and huddle up like penguins. This is a great way to keep warm!
  2. Listen to music and get your boogie on! Dancing is a fun form of exercise. Exercise releases the happy hormone, dopamine, in the brain, and so does music, so having both in one is a dopamine jackpot. If by the time it reaches Christmas, you are already tired of hearing the same Christmas hits radio, create your own playlist on YouTube or another streaming platform, or even better, treat yourself to some quality speakers, and CD or record player. You could go hunting for CDs or start a new hobby of record collecting. This will definitely keep you busy during the winter.

  1. The last tip for surviving a cold winter is to start drinking herbal teas. You can buy them, or you can make your own with ginger, lemon, honey or fresh mint. There are so many to choose from, and some of them have warming effects, some have detoxing effects, and some even claim to make you feel more loving. We could all do with increasing our levels of compassion in the harsh winter, so boil your kettle, and treat yourself.
