Winter Wonderland Walks in the UK

Enjoying the great outdoors in the winter months is the mood boost that we all need from time to time. We are lucky to have many fantastic places to enjoy a winter walk, so dig out your wellies and aran sweaters! Here are some of the best winter wonderlands in the UK…

Wales

Elidir Trail – This beautiful area of Wales is named waterfall country for good reason – the beautiful landscape has waterfalls aplenty, and it is easy to how local legend says that this is the entrance to the fairy world. Winter is a particularly special time to visit these beautiful waterfalls, as the icy particles covering the rocks around the falls give it an even more magical appearance.

The Cotswold Way – This trail in Gloucestershire is around 100 miles in length, so would not be possible to complete in one day. But you can complete a part of it or make a winter break of it and stay at quaint country bed and breakfasts along the way. Walk from Broadway and up towards the Broadway tower, and over Cleeve Hill, the highest point in Gloucestershire where you will have a spectacular view of the rolling countryside below.

Loch Muick – This nature reserve in Aberdeenshire is where you will find a real winter wonderland. There are lots of walking routes across the wintery terrain, and there are plenty where it is fairly level so don’t worry about climbing mountains! You may also notice a lot of the local wildlife on your walk – the area is home to Red Deer, Ptarmigan, Grouse and even the Red Squirrel.
