Important Jewish Festivals and Celebrations.

The three most important Jewish Festivals and Celebrations are probably, Pesah or the Passover, Shavuot or Pentecost and Sukkot or Tabernacles.  Then there is Rosh Hashanah or New Year, and Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement, all these Festivals are required by the Torah. The Pesah or Passover is celebrated every spring by Jewish Families to remember when the Angel of Death Passed Over the homes of the Israelites when they were slaves of the cruel Pharaoh and they were then allowed to go free from the tyranny of the Egyptian people.

Every spring the Passover is celebrated by modern Jewish families who sit together and eat specific foods from traditional Seder Plates.  These very important plates are used to serve items that have an important religious meaning and symbolise events from the time of Jewish slavery and escape. The Shavuot is another important celebration of when the Torah was revealed to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai and will be celebrated this year from the evening of Thursday, May 25th until the evening of Saturday May the 27th.

The Sukkot is held to commemorate the forty years the Israelites wandered in the desert after escaping from their slavery under the Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. This agricultural thanksgiving celebration will be held this year from Friday 29th September 2023 to Friday 6th October 2023. A Sukkah is built by families, who are required to eat in this religious construction for the period of the seven days.
