Working out the Costs of Your House Move

When you are moving house it is a busy time, and it can be easy to not think too much about the actual costs of moving house and the things that you need to pay for in addition to the property itself. Here are some of the things that you need to consider throughout the moving process…

To begin with, in addition to the cost of the property you need to take into account the solicitors fee as well as the estate agents fees. Check these beforehand so that you can include them in your budget. There is also the stamp duty land tax, or SDLT to think about 0- this is subject to change regularly so it is worth checking, and it may be that even if you have recently moved and paid it you could claim an SDLT refund.

The move itself also comes with costs – you may want to have a removals company – this is the easiest option if budget allows, but you might want to do it yourself which would still probably involve hiring a van of your own, so get some quotes on things before you make a decision.

Once you have moved you need to take into account the costs of daily life in the new property. Check the council tax band as it may differ from the old house, as well as utilities prices and costs for transport from the new place to work.
