Places to visit in Bude

Bude is a beautiful seaside town located in the very North East of Cronwal. It is one of the many picturesque towns that characterises the county so well and rightly gives it its reputation for being one of the most scenic and unspoilt counties in the UK. Bude has an interesting past, it was not only considered something of a romantic retreat for young lovers it was seen as being a great place of the intrepid Victiran bathers to which it owes its size and expansion. Its sand is also great at improving the soil of inland Cornwall which is characterised by places like Dartmoor, in Devon, and Bodmin Moor. It is also a working fishing village with access to the Irish Sea, Atlantic and Bristol Channel. This is less important now and the marina is more likely to contain private boats than a fishing fleet.

There are plenty of Local things to do in Bude, just consult https://www.localthingstodo.co.uk/locations/things-to-do-in-bude/ to see them all. Its Cliffs are a site of special scientific interest and can provide a number of walks and round rambles that can show the interesting geology and fantastic views across the sea scape. This was the site of many wrecks, some deliberate and some accidental, most famously the Bencoolen in 1862.

Bude Castle is one of the many notable buildings around the town. It is the site of a local heritage centre and offers a great location to look out across the bay and have a relaxing pitstop and visit the museum inside. Even better, it is free to enter. The heritage centre offers a good interpretation of the history of the Bude and the area around it. There is also a good gallery of local artists’ work who are inspired by the area and its look.

One of the most visited locations is the now infamous Bude Tunnel. This is just a long perspex tunnel linking a car park to a supermarket but after it became the most visited site in the town on Tripadvisor, for a joke, it has gained great fame. The locals have embraced this and even added to the humour. There is also a good cause behind the humour as there are now 50p Bude Tunnel postcards available with the proceeds going to local charities.

Bude is about bathing and surfing and this is the real draw of the place. If you are looking for a great little break away from the hustle and bustle of general life then Bude could provide the answer.
