You can change the alert tone for the receiver from the menu, but this is typically a hidden option within the receiver’s menu structure. It only takes a few minutes to find out how to change the alert tone and once done, your staff will be able to hear the calls coming in throughout the shift.
Choose the Right Tone for Your Space
In kitchens and workshops high pitched tones that are loud above background noise of machinery are suitable. For lounges in care homes, shops etc. soft mellow tones or even a low chime would be more suitable not to startle guests/residents nearby.
Access the Tone-Setting Mode
To change the alert tone for a call, hold the mode or menu button for a few seconds until the receiver beeps or its display changes. The exact button to press for tone-changing is usually described in the unit’s manual for the model you are using.
Cycle Through and Select a Tone
For each available tone, press the tone or select button to step through the individual tones, with a short tone playback of the selected tone for each. Select the desired tone, then press the menu or mode button to confirm the change.
Assign Different Tones to Different Buttons
With a Pager System that has multiple call points in a department, it’s very helpful to assign different tones for different buttons. When staff are alerted, they can immediately tell where they need to go.
More on Pager System can be found at www.dinggly.com/.
Test at Working Volume
Play the tone you chose in normal room volume. Walk to the farthest end of your space to make sure everyone can clearly hear the alert even when there is a lot of background noise in the room.
Watch Out for Tone Fatigue
It’s also worth remembering the workplace noise and the staff’s ears. Make sure the chosen volume is loud enough to be heard but not so sharp that it grates after 100 repetitions.
Remember to reconfigure your alert tones when you change the structure of your business or increase your workforce.
